‘Empowerment Through Impact Investment’

at the India International Centre (Annexe), Lecture Room I

Ms. Kumari Selja

Hon. Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment will deliver the Valedictory Address

Concept Note:

Impact investment is a socially beneficial initiative by a new type of investor who is looking to generate ‘social return’ even with a below the market financial return. The financial return is kept to the bare minimum, just enough to keep the initiative sustainable. Impact investment – which is an extension of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) – is being implemented by charitable organizations, non- profit entities and investment firms. Impact investors have entered sectors such as affordable education, health care, housing, drinking water and clean energy. This issue has acquired greater relevance in India in the light of recent legislation adopted by the Indian government apropos CSR.
